Section 21-9. Excavation pits that require shoring

The employer shall ensure that excavation pits deeper than 2 m are shored or have a safe angle of slope. Documentation of the calculations for shoring shall be available on request.
Shoring shall protrude at least 0.10 m above the edge of the excavation.
When using prefabricated shoring or other means of physical protection in the excavation pit, the instructions for use shall clearly show for what depths and soils the structure is designed. If such instructions for use exist, the requirement that documentation of calculations must be available in the workplace will no longer apply. Sheet piles are not considered to be prefabricated shoring.
